This letter refers to the two public hearings the county had on the issue of sludge being approved for use in Rappahannock County. I was present for both hearings and the response for the use of this product was very positive.
Farmers and residents of Rappahannock County were also present at these meetings. The second hearing was about the handling and distribution of this product and once again the farmers and residence were in support of using sludge. The State regulates the application of sludge at no cost to the farmers for using the product. I’ve been to three farms in Fauquier County where sludge was being applied. I’ve spoken to several farmers, Harry Jones, Bill Duvall, Roger Poe, Ross Poe, Harrison Powers, and John Bauserman, who are full time farmers and they have used the product in the past or are using it now and they are more than pleased with the results.
I have taken the time to educate myself on the use of sludge by attending the public hearings and by visiting farms and I have no reservations about using this product. At the June meeting the Board of Supervisors voted not to allow the use of sludge in Rappahannock County.
