We need an accounting from the fire department,” he added.
“We got one (accounting) two years ago,” replied Treasurer Brad Fisher.
“I just want to see what the county receives for their money,” Mr. Gooch went on. “The fire department does a wonderful job. They do great service. We don’t need a formal audit, but an accounting is important.”
Several council members agreed with Mr. Gooch, and added that they were extremely satisfied with the fire department and their value to the community, but should have an accounting. Because the fire department is a volunteer organization, it is easy for them to overlook some things.
Mayor Dean Morehouse stressed that “We’re really blessed with the service we get." He added that he will take care of the matter, and will report back to the council at the next meeting.
The council scheduled their next regular meeeting for 7 pm Wednesday, July 14. Council attorney Frank Reynolds Jr. pointed out that the council still has to approve the budget for next year, but by law, they must wait seven days after the public hearing before adopting the budget.
