Yet if the GOP candidates can put together campaigns that state their own visions of what they want to accomplish coupled with some punishing attacks on the Democrats — and it is by no means certain they can or will — my gut feeling is that at least a couple of the races may tighten to the point by November they might be toss-ups.
But please understand, that eventuality is contingent on the GOP being smart enough to realize that winning is better than losing, a fact some of its candidates and party members have seemed to overlook for the past 12 years.
