The promotional poster says, “A Very Special Evening of Jazz and Acoustical Music.” And at 8 p.m. on June 26, the Theater at Little Washington promises to be just that.
At that time Sperryville resident Vicky Pratt Keating, who has toured all over the country, brings her original songwriting and acoustical folk-pop music to the county for her first local concert.
The program will also present Robert Jospe’s jazz ensemble, “Inner Rhythm,” a high-energy sextet from Charlottesville, featuring world-class musicians including Bob Read of Trapezoid on sax and John D’Earth on trumpet.
Vicky Pratt Keating has just released her third album, “Blue Apples,” and the reviews have been quite complimentary, using terms such as “powerful lyrics, prodigious songwriting talent,” and “remarkably original voice.”
She brings a strong group of performers with her as the Vicky Pratt Keating Band. Robert Jospe, called the “finest drummer I’ve worked with in my twenty years of professional musical life,” by John McCutcheon, is on drums and percussion. Rick Schmidt, who appeared with Keating on “Blue Apples,” is on violin; and Bob Read, well known in the area as a multi-talented stand-out in Trapezoid, is the keyboardist. Keating is the vocalist, plays acoustic guitar, and has written many of the songs that she will perform.
Keating has been compared to stars such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, and Shawn Colvin, in terms of her talent. But don’t expect to hear a clone of those stellar performers. Vicky brings her
