The Washington Town Council held a public hearing on the proposed budgets for the town of Washington and the Washington Water Works. This was an opportunity for citizens to tell the council what they like and don’t like about both budgets.
In addition to council members and their attorney, there were three members of the public present - two town residents and a reporter for the Rappahannock News.
Nobody spoke for or against the budgets.
The proposed budgets contain expected expenses of about $97,000 for the town, and $39,000 for the water works.
Council members are not mind readers. If you do not let them know how you feel, they cannot act on your suggestions. Based on lack of public comment, they must assume that everybody in Washington is 100 percent satisfied with the budget, and nobody wants any changes.
We hope this assumption is correct. But if it isn’t, you know who to blame.
