Roy Leake has agreed to sell the county 5.119 acres for $60,000. The land will be used for expansion at the elementary school.
Mr. Leake will receive $30,000 on October 4 and another $30,000 January 4. The title to the property the county will get will prohibit using the property for solid waste collection.
Last Wednesday the Board of Supervisors met in executive session with and without Mr. Leake present. The supervisors were trying to agree with Mr. Leake on a price for the land which would not require a condemnation suit, but Mr. Leake did not then accept their offer.
Following the executive session the supervisors adopted a resolution to condemn the land. The resolution to proceed with condemnation gave $47,500 as the fair market value Of the land.
The resolution says the 5.119acre parcel west of Route 636 and south of the current school property is the “most suitable site for expansion.”
Mr. Leake later agreed to accept the county's offer for the land thus saving himself and the county the cost of court action.
