A Halloween

To the Editor:
On Halloween, a lot of county residents bring their kids to Washington for the best trick-or-treating. It has been wonderful the way town residents have played along. It shows a good sense of community spirit and my kids had a super time last year.
I was a townsperson once. Enough candy for that many kids can cost more than fifty dollars. Even at fifty dollars you can feel stingy while giving only two or three small pieces of candy to the eager ones. The situation doesn’t feel right to me on either end; the giving, or the receiving.
You may not be the most appro- - priate person for me to have written. However, you would be called in to help out in case someone agreed to put this idea into action. If you agree with the following idea, would you help get it going?
I am thinking the county residents (your readers) who would be planning to bring children to Washington, would willingly donate a fair share of treats to the townspeople (c o your office, the. Mayor’s someone’s ???) the week before the big night. Then all the treats would (somehow) be distributed to those households who plan to be participating.
