identified gifted students enrolled in Virginia public and private high schools. The number of academic nominees from a particular locality is determined by school enrollment. Effort is made to ensure equitable participation by race and gender.
Student may be nominated by teachers, guidance counselors,' peers, or by themselves. A school dir vision selection committee picks the nominees from each locality. The Virginia Department of Education selects the final group of 650 students. Auditions are required for participants in the visual and performing arts program.
