books “in good condition” instead of money, and save money for other purchases. Mrs. Lynch said she would be happy to accept books as long as she could use her discretion on whether or not to keep them.
Mrs. Lynch reported the library had a received a grant of $2,000 from the Public Welfare Foundation to purchase books on tape. Member Mary Jamieson said that Robert Haskell served on the board and “pleaded our case.”
Program committee chairman Diana Bird said that several programs were in the works. For the Friday programs, she said Oliver Brown would present the October program on the Rappahannock Hunt. In November Jim Small will present a program on using the library’s computers, and in December foreign exchange students w ould do a program on Christmas customs in their countries. The January program will be on caving with Bruce Sloane, she said, and the February program will be on black history. She said that additional programs are being planned for Sunday afternoons.
Roberta Anderson and Frank Warner reported for buildings and grounds that the panel-fold door between the meeting room and children’s room had finally been fixed. Mr. Warner reported that there has been settling under the sidewalk leading to the staff door. He got permission from the board to proceed with clearing weeds from the area’ around the stone wall.
