The 24th annual Heritage Festival will celebrate the pioneer past of Page County and the Shenandoah Valley on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9 and 10.
Three historic properties will be open for free tours during the festival hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. They are “Calendine,” the Heritage historical museum, the Mauck Meeting House, a 18th century log church, both located in Hamburg west of Luray off 211 and the restored one-room Massanutten school in Luray’s Inn Lawn Park.
The main events will be at the Page Valley Fairgrounds east of Luray. Admission will be $2 for adults and $1 for students.
There will be a special tractor display. It is an unique 25 horsepower 1911 Type D Tital tractor, shown by L. Baumgardner of Hanover, Pa. Some 150 arts and crafts displays and sales and dozens of demonstrations will be featured. Demonstrations will include apple butter boiling, cider pressing, horsedrawn threshing machine, chair bottom caning, soap making, quilting and split-oak basket making.
Homemade country foods from brown beans and cornbread to beef, pork and chicken barbeque will be offered from dozens of food booths.
Area doggers and square dancers will provide entertainment along with traditional country, bluegrass and gospel music groups. Also featured will be an art sale by the Valley Artists Guild.
