Located 3.7 miles from Sperryville on Route 231, hidden from view on a rolling hillside, is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Graage, and a featured house in Trinity Church’s House Tour and Dried Flower Sale.
Originally built in 1749 as the home and office of Dr. Philip Thornton, the house has been restored to much of its original state. Opposing fireplaces in the living room and bedroom fireplace were uncoverd and made operable. The original brick floor in the downstairs kitchen was also uncoverd, scrubbed and waxed. Upstairs dormers were added as they had been in Dr. Thornton's time.
There are new additions; a wall of French doors gives light to the living room and open to a view of the pond and the mountains. A central circular staircase gives access and light to the basement kitchen with its mortar covered walls and six foot fireplace.
