The School Board adopted the 1994-95 budget Tuesday night in a unanimous vote and forwarded it to the Board of Supervisors.
The $5.8 million budget includes raises of about 3 percent for most employees, a new administrative position and a teacher for gifted and talented students.
At a budget work session last Wednesday the board received requests for two additions to the budget. They approved one and denied the other.
They received a letter from high school teachers Dennis Wingfield and James Futrell noting that they had reached the top of the current salary schedule and would only get a 1 percent raise. They asked the board to consider an additional step on the salary scale.
School Superintendent David Gangel said that over the past two years he had extended the schedule adding a 26th and 27th step. He said he had intended to add a 28th step and continue to 30 steps but had forgotten to do so.
However, he noted that adding even the 28th step would make those teachers pay higher on a per diem basis than either assistant principal or the elementary school principal.
