Matilda Walker
Mrs. Matilda Jane Clark Walker, 97, died March 14 of natural causes and is survived by three sons; Dr. Deward E. Walker, Jr. of Boulder, Colorado, Dr. John C. Adams of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Hill M. Walker of Eugene, Oregon.
Her only daughter, deceased, was Elizabeth Adams de Hermosillo of Mexico City, Mexico.
She has 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was descended from the Clark and Thornton families of Virginia and was bora to John W. Clark and Alice Thornton of Rappahannock County, v
She graduated from teachers college in Farmville, Va. and spent the majority of her life in Rappahannock County as a public school teacher for more than 40 years. She spent the latter part of her life in Boulder County where she participated actively in family and community affairs.
She is remembered for her commitment to public education for all people and for her love of music, poetry, history, and her family.
Graveside services were held in the Mountain View Cemetery on Friday, March 18 in Boulder, Colorado. A reception for friends and family was held immediately after in the Aspen Grove Clubhouse at 28th and Iris in Boulder.
