Following a meeting last Tuesday with Royer Engineering, the Richmond firm vyhich is responsible for developing and getting state approval for the next cell for trash disposal at the county landfill, County Administrator John McCarthy reported that supervisors prefer to have the county continue to operate the landfill rather than depend on an out-of-county site.
He said that new estimates indicate the county can dispose of trash in its own landfill for slightly under $50 per ton. Furthermore the supervisors are concerned about the county’s potential liability if problems should occur at an outside landfill which received county trash.
Mr. McCarthy said the new cell will cost about $1 million to construct, and the county will probably have to borrow funds to build it.
Royer Enginering estimated that the new four-acre cell will last five years, but Mr. McCarthy said that
