their experience, but the level of their responsibility is not the same as someone “who is responsible for an entire school.”
He said that in general salaries for administrators are less competitive with surrounding counties than any other salaries in the school system. He said he did not oppose adding the next step to the teachers’ salary scale, but he felt if the board took that step this year, they must give consideration to larger increases for administrators in the next budget.
Bookkeeper Bonnie Hahn said it would cost about $850 to add the additional step for those teachers including fringe benefits.
Chairman Beverly Massie said she felt the board should include the addditional step and add one step a year until there are 30 steps. She said the board should consider the pay scale for administrators next year. “As long as I’ve been on the School Board is has been a constant battle to catch up, whether on the front end or the back end or administration,” she said. “That is a fact of life. It is a constant battle that will continue until the general public values education.”
The board agreed to fund the additional step in the proposed budget.
