Leader. Mr. Martin has served as the Assistant District Ranger in the Central District for the past four years. The Central District consists of the area between U.S. Highways 211 and 33, and contains the Big Meadows and Skyland Lodges and the Big Meadows Campground as well as Old Rag Mountain.
Charlie Newton has been selected to be the Chief of Technical and Professional Services. Mr. Newton has been the Acting Chief of Maintenance of the Park for the past 18 months. Prior to this, he served as the Chief of the Buildings and Utilities Section. This new unit will supervise the wastewater treatment plants, the architectural and engineering services, the utilities services, the automative shop, and the Park’s painters, electricians and carpenters.
Vaughan Baker has been selected to fill the vacant Assistant Superintendent position. Mr. Baker has 20 years experience with the Department of the Interior. He began is National Park Service career as the volunteer. He worked for five years in Alaska, three years as Assistant Superintendent at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, and has recently completed a legislative internship in the National Park Service Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs. The latter assignment included a staff assignment with the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. ' Mr. Baker is expected to begin work in Shenandoah National Park the second week in April.
Ms. Vicki Hamel has been selected to fill the vacant Administrative Officer position. Ms. Hamel recently served as the Assistant District Manager, Division of Administration, for the Vale District of the Bureau of Land Managements in Vale, Oregon. Ms. Hamel reported for duty in Shenanodah National Park early this month.
