Dr. Gangel said, “It has been a good program, but we made a pledge to the supervisors.” When he asked the supervisors to approve the appropriation of federal funds for the program, he said he would not ask the county to pick up the cost if federal funds were not available.
Hampton District representative Bryant - Lee agreed saying, “It’s very worthy, but we have to stand behind our word on that.”
“That’s perfectly reasonable,” Mr. Tole said. He said that the supervisors should be told, however, “what is being lost.”
The budget as approved includes a note from the superintendent to the supervisors noting that funds for a coordinator for the “at risk” program are not included in the budget
