The estimated cost for this would be $160,000, to handle 15,000 gallons per day, enough for the elementary school plus $35,000 for a backup generator and pump station, plus $30,000 to $80,000 for engineering. This system is the most labor intensive, said Mr. Hearl.

One that would handle both schools, with a capacity of 25,000 gallons per day, would cost $250,000 plus the cost of a pumping station and generator. The cost for pipe to be installed between the two schools could run about $25,000. Rights of way could be a problem, and could be expensive, Mr. Hearl said.

The proposed school budget for next year includes $34,500 for renovations to the high school sewage system. The school system has been notified of violations of state law for discharges from the high school plant.
