“Among our assets were and still are such characteristics as enthusiasm, determination and confidence in ourselves,” he continued. “After years of thought, we finally concluded we would get ourselves a small farm and experience the pleasures and satisfactions resulting from building and growing things on land we owned and cultivated.”
They wanted land with a view and plenty of water. Their specifications included property that was accessible in all weather and convenient to medical facilities. They also wanted to be close enough to a city so they could visit for shopping, the theatre or sporting events.
Their search for land took them from Alaska and British Columbia to Arizona and Florida, but they finally settled on a 25-acre parcel on Oventop mountain.
“We began practicing for our future country life by camping there on weekends,” he said. “When we decided that tenting was not the life we wanted to develop, we decided we would build ourselves a house.”
