At the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) graduation for fifth graders held at the elementary school last Wednesday, Capt. Jeff Brown of the Sheriffs Department had essay winners read their essays on why they should avoid drugs.
The three winners were Jenny ■ Waters from Mrs. Jenkins’ class; Josh Demarr from Mrs. Foster’s class; and Cara Levick from Miss Saxton’s class.
In another contest to design vehicle license plates carrying the DARE message and using up to seven letters, Capt. Brown judged the three best ones to be DARE2U by Ashley Dunn, BE4DARE by Frances Gatewood, and DRUGYUK by Jeff Simeon.
Each student participating in the DARE program received a T-shirt, and the essay and license plate design winners also received hats.
The most popular part of the graduation program, the slide show, was last. Capt. Brown photographs his students in the classroom, in the hallways, and outside, always having fun and laughing. The students love this slide program, and it elicits
