Mr. McCarthy said, “Many people tell me we have to diversity our tax base here. We have nothing to sell to compete with other counties that have more access to transportation, such as Route 66. Every county east of us has more expenses and we want to keep it that way. I do not think that a company like Disney would come here because we do not have the transportation, work force, etc. This is a place where people want to live.”
Ms. Pierce responded, “The way you see it, we will have more white-collar development. It will put pressure on schools and other services.”
Mr. Gottlieb asked, “Does the Board of Supervisors’ legal constraint have anything to do with this group studying this problem? I think we need to study it.”
Mike Massie, who represents the Board of Supervisors on the Planning Commission and serves as its chairman, responded that he would ask the supervisors about this.
