Sewer Needs

Members of the Water and Sewer Authority considered what to do about what they see as increasing problems with sewage in the county.
i Chairman Eugene Leggett said the county needs to do a study on the waste disposal needs of the county now and what they are likely to be in the future. He said then an engineering study of how those needs can be met would be the next step.
Member Charles K. “Pete” Estes noted that the school system will have to have a package treatment plant for the elementary school by 1997 and that the School Board is investigating the cost of a 15,000-gallon system to handle just the elementary school, a 25,000gallon system that could handle both schools, and a 50,000-gallon system that could handle a third school or that the county could reserve part of for the general commercial district. He said it was not yet clear whether this would be a school project or be assigned to the WSA. v
“It would be up to the Board of Supervisors to assign it to the WSA,” member Carson Johnson commented. “Is the Planning Commission taking this into consideration in setting up the commercial zone?” he asked.
