Number 13 aside, this book is a masterpiece of fine underwaqter exploration and photography, with some outstanding fold-out paintings of the wrecks that were too large for the camera work. The text is smoothly whtten and merges unobstrusively with the magnificent photographs. Without a lot of bombast it details the fast-paced night action that brought out the very best in the men of both navies, Allied and Imperial Japanese.

The Lott Ships of Guadalcanal, available at the Rappahannock Library, brings a lot of detail and focuses on a period of time when the “issue was in doubt.” A remarkable piece of work. Well done.
