Trash collection is projected to drop from $400,000 this year to $250,000 next year, but maintenance of the county landfill, a category that includes improvements to the site is projected to increase from nearly $389,000 to about $551,000. Also in the public works budget is maintenance of county owned buildings and grounds. That is projected to drop from $890,700 to $879,500.
In the Health and Welfare part of the budget there is a new category for the “Comprehensive Services Act.” The amount in that budget is $94,584. It replaces funding included for children in the welfare and school budgets. County social services director Beverly Bowen explained in the last meeting with the supervisors that the state is requiring each county to set up committees with representatives of various agencies to handle “at risk” children on a case by case basis. She said this approach has been helpful, with the efforts of the various agencies which handled such cases in the past better coordinated. ;/ i
The supervisors will hold a public hearing on the school budget Monday April 25 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. A public hearing on the entire county budget is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 6 in the Court House.
