“I don’t know what’s the best course of action,” Mr. Estes said, "The Town of Washington jealously guards its rights of township.”
“I’m not concerned about egos; I’m concerned about the economic health of the county,” Mr. Leggett said. “I hate to see us solving each as an isolated problem at enormous expense.”
Mr. Johnson said that the Planning Commission should have considered whether or not the land would perk before allowing for a commercial zone on U.S. 522-21L
“These are emerging problems we can see better now than two years ago,” Mr. Leggett said. “We need to see what the requirements are and then get some technical assistance. The Board of Supervisors has to deal with it. They can delegate it to us or whoever they see fit. Is there anything we should do but! sit and wait?” i
“I don’t know,” Mr. Estes mused. “I’ve brought it up more times than I care to mention. No one wants to look down the barrel, of high taxes, but it will take one cent on the tax rate to run a sewer system at the school.” 1
“No one likes taxes less than I do, but treating it as it arises is going to be very costly,” Mr. Leggett said.
“It will be if they contaminate the well at the school,” Mr. Estes said.
Nothing was resolved in the meeting, but as it ended, Mr. Estes said he was leaning toward suggesting that Mr. Leggett formally present his concerns to the Board of Supervisors. •
The WSA considered again what additional capacity there may be at the Sperryville plant without reaching any conclusion. They decided to start work on the budget for the coming year, agreeing, if possible, to adopt a budget that will not require a rate increase.
