“We are delighted to have these very knowledgeable and talented volunteers assisting us at the Extension Office,” stated Helen W. Smith, Extension Agent. “One of the requirements after the Master Gardeners finish their course is that they donate 50 hours of volunteer service helping their local Extension Office,” continued Mrs. Smith.
“This year the Master Gardeners decided to establish regular hours to work in the office answering phone calls and requests from local citizens,” said Mrs. Smith. One Master Gardener will work two hours each day. “This should really help us since Mr. Cunningham, our agricultural agent, recently resigned,” she added. “This is the busy season for gardening and home horticulture questions.”
The Master Gardpner hours will be 10 a.m.-12 noon on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. If! county residents cannot come to the Extension office during those hours, they can call or come by anytime during regular hours to leave a message or bring in their plant specimen for diagnosis.
“This year’s Master Gardeners have a broad spectrum of interests,” commented Mrs. Smith. One person’s specialty is herbs, and another person’s is boxwoods. Several of the Master Gardeners are experienced growers of annuals, perennials, and vegetables.
