The soccer team had another victory at home Monday, defeating the Quantico Dependents School 2 to 0. They also played to a 3 to 3 tie with Central in an away game last Tuesday.
Carlos Avelar and Eddie Sause scored the goals in Monday’s victory. Following the game Coach UK Maeyer said, “We have now a mature team that can play 80 minutes at full speed. The major factor is that they do not make any stupid mistakes any more. They don’t give goals away.”
“This was a perfect team effort,” he said of Monday’s game. Coach Maeyer said that he will work on teaching his players how to bring a game when they have the lead “to an end safely.”
In the Central game, Rappahannock was ahead 3 to 1 at halftime and still had the lead with five seconds to go, but Central scored in the waning seconds. Coach Maeyer said his team managed to hold on to the tie during overtime, but his players were tired. “It was a great game played at a high level,” he said.
The soccer team was to play a home game with R.M.A. Wednesday and another home game with Central Tuesday. '
