Craig Claiborne, noted food writer and cookbook author, could have spent his 74th birthday anywhere in the world, but he chose to spend it here in Rappahannock County at The Inn at Little Washington.
Mr. Claiborne, considered to be the foremost authority on Southern cooking, is a longtime friend of Inn owners Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch. He was their guest here for the Labor Day weekend, and he said of The Inn, “This is the best thing that ever happened to America.”
This was the third time Mr. Claiborne had chosen to spend his birthday here. He was also here for his 65th and 66th' birthdays. Prince Rainier of Monte Carlo hosted his 70th birthday, and invited 50 of the
