ll the coffee, Mr. Bird! The former Soviet Union is in economic and political turmoil making it potentially more dangerous than ever before. Combine this with the desire of renegade nations like Korea, Iran, and Iraq to produce and deliver nuclear weapons and you have the formula for potential disaster. Our country’s first and foremost responsibility is to protect its people and their freedom, not as liberals might have it, to create more social programs and greater dependence on government.
Second, taxes; Mr. Bird sings the praises of our most recent federal income tax increase. He would have us believe that it only affected the ultra-rich and that by doing so it made “substantial reductions” in our five year budget deficit. Just what do you mean by “relatively unchanged for most of us in the middle,” Mr. Bird? My taxes increase dramatically, and I resent it when I’m told the fairy tale of how this tax increase would make a “substantial reduction in the annual budget deficit.”
