Geest said his father, Harold CGeest, was born in Illinois and grew up in nearby Fluvanna County, Va. He came to Culpeper in 1929 and opened a funeral home on West Davis Street in the building that currently houses the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce , and the county registrar’s office.
In 1950, the funeral home moved to its current location and nine years later Christopher joined the family business. After his father died, Geest began an affiliation with W. Clyde Johnson of Johnson Funeral Home, in Locust Grove which lasted from 1979 to 1992. “We serve Culpeper County, and large parts of Madison and Rappahannock counties as well as a small part of Fauquier County,” said Geest.
Clore Funeral Home’s business roots can be traced back 150 years, said English. He and Western have been there for 21 years and have . owned the business since 1980. Between it and the Geest family, there is a tradition of service that is more than 200 years old.
