As you begin school, be sure the lunch you pack travels on the Internet of food safety. From booting up to downloading, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline recommends using “FS-DOS” (“Food Safety Depends on Savvy”).
No one wants to get sick. But just as your computer can get a virus when downloading a file, a mishandled lunch can harbor, bacteria which might transmit bytes of foodborne illness.
Hotline director Susan Conley says, “For a safe route on the Superhighway, look through out windows for some savvy written in ‘FoodPerfect’ format.”
Setup your lunch by putting a gel pack of juice box in the freezer. It should keep perishable foods safe until lunchtime either in a brown bag or lunch box.
Search for foods that will last from early morning to lunchtime without refrigeration. Select fresh . fruits and vegetables, cookies, pretzels, crackers or cans of fruit or shelf-stable packaged pudding.
