I’m not surprised the liberal Lee Bird took great pains to attack the character of Oliver North, and I am sure it was with great glee that the Rappahannock News published it.
This is just one more example of the fact that liberals are running scared. Mr. Bird labeled North a liar who was convicted of perjury, obstructing justice by shredding documents, and using government funds for his own benefit.
Hey gang, get the facts straight and tell the whole story. First, North was never even charged with peijury. Second, North was indeed convicted of shredding documents, which he received orders to do. A Marine Corps officer following orders is not something I would expect the newspaper or the liberal establishment to understand; however, I can assure you that it’s sacred to all Marines. And thirdly, North also received a gift. Once again, all, conveniently omit that this was in the form of a security fence presented to him by General Second. The fence was for the purpose of protecting North’s family after a Palestinian terrorist group made public threats toward him. The liberals, it would appear, would have us believe that North’s wife and children were perfectly acceptable targets.
Mr. Bird’s letter contained other statements which I cannot on good conscience let slide without comment. First, he refers to North’s support of increased defense spending as “preposterous.” Mr. Bird no doubt feels safe and cozy on his mountainside. After all, the Soviet Union no longer exists and Bill Clinton would never think of taking on any offensive military operation greater than that of removing six Haitian thugs. Wake up and smell
