As a former Canadian with few remaining ties to my native country, I wish to oppose Dr. Young’s support of the socialized medical systefn of Canada. One look at the value (>f the Canadian dollar, the sluggish economy, the high tax rate and high unemployment rate will tell even the most casual observer that socialisfn in Canada is a colossal failure. ;
The medical system in Canada works very well as long as one is healthy. Long delays in referrals and postponement in care result (n needless suffering and sometimes Jn death. For example, I have two friends who are also former Canandians; each had a brother in Canadh; both were diagnosed with prostate cancer. One waited for the Canadian system which took too long to initiate treatment; he died. The other refused to wait for the bureaucracy to move; he came immediately to the U.S. and was cured.
If the Canadian system is so wonderful, why do Canadians take oiit 4 j expensive policies so that they cqn be treated in the U.S.? 1
If we adopt the formfilled, bureaucratic, inefficient system offered by our Northern neighbors and now by our own lawyer legislators, where will we go for care? At least now Canadians can come here and do. J
