Three months of hard work and planning boiled down to an eight-minute presentation.
Competing in their first Odyssey of the Mind (OM)Tournament, the Division 11 RCES team won a third place trophy and ribbons for solving the problem called “Scientific Safari.”
The awards were announced last Saturday afternoon at Liberty High School in Fauquier County, the 1995 host for the Northwest Virginia Regional Tournament.
Liberty High was bustling with OM activity well before 8:15 a.m. when the Rappahannock team arrived. The school was filled with OM team members, their siblings, coaches, teachers, parents and administrators as 115 scheduled presentations took place.
There were five problem categories to solve: Scientific Safari, The Mail Must Go Through, Classics...Vaudeville, A New Twist, and Time Traveler. Each category problem was divided by age Into Divisions 1, II, and III. There was a non competitive primary problem entitled Math Party, as well.
