Our home town has a new home team. The Cristofori Trio, a brand new classical chamber music ensemble, has honored us by being born here.

It has just finished making its world debut with two concerts at the Theatre at Washington held on Feb. 19 and March 5.

The leader of the group is the veteran concert pianist Martin Berkofsky, a front-rank musician of considerable talent and experience.

Opinion

His associates, violinist Judith Spokes and cellist Kang Xia, are younger and relatively less well known and experienced, although they have already established solid reputations in and around New York.

Berkofsky lives in Fauquier County and Ms. Spokes has family in nearby Marshall, but the main reason for claiming that we are the ensemble’s home base is the group itself says so. Its parent organization. The Cristofori Ensemble, was established last year and is “resident,” to use the technical term, at The Theatre in Washington.

The group bravely performed all six of the Mozart piano trios, three at each concert. This is not fare for beginners, but the ensemble played as if they had known the music and played it together for decades. I
