Award of Merit went to Frances Russell for a very large white iris. Mary Priest of Amissville and Harlean Smoot of Culpeper each garnered several blue ribbons for their entries.
Sections in the competitive classes ! of horticulture, which were for single blossoms, branches or vines, included Peoniesr Irfa, Bulbs, Perennials, Roses, Biennials, Flowering Branches and Trees, and Vines. «—
The peonies were especially lovely, and many visitors marveled at the single peonies which look even more' elegant than the double peonies. The display of irises was spectacular with ♦ many unusual colors represented. *
The perennial division included! many exquisite columbines and bleeding hearts. Many people were also delighted with the very early blooming roses on display.
A pink azalea with gigantic blooms entered by Mary Priest was 2l highlight of the Flowering Branch sec- ‘ tion, along with many beautiful exam-’ pies of weigela. The clematis in the , Vine section was also magnificent. I
