ment spending rose more than the rate of inflation, more than growth in population, more than the growth of per capita income of Virginians and faster than the growth of Federal spending in the same time period.
Gov. Allen’s economic growth plans would have increased the tax base for the state and those localities that participated in attracting new business that employ them. And before I have to defend myself later, let me remind the readers that the farmers in Rappahannock County are small businesses too.
For the Democrats in the General Assembly to call the four page document an “Allen” budget when in reality the Governor’s proposals were inches thick is a hoax, a joke and a sick one. As for your unsubstantiated claims, no letter to the editor can change the truth, Mr. Reeve.
Virginia Democrats are more concerned with feeding their egos and maintaining control of the budget process than doing the will of the people. It is my hope as the full story of this past session of the General Assembly unfolds that the participants- and their supporters of these acts of despotism by the Democrats will be rejected again at the polls. Then the prospect for honest change will be much brighter under Republican leadership.
