Viewtown who handpaints designs on dinner plates, platters, pitchers, bowls, mugs and picture frames.
Since 1988, Mrs. Strange has worked almost exclusively with handpainted designs on locally purchased pottery, which is decorated and then fired in her own large kiln at her home.
Mrs. Strange is especially proud of her latest achievements — place plates for Topper’s Restaurant at the Wauwinet House of Nantucket, its only four-star restaurant. She recently completed an entire bathroom and shower for a client who “wanted to be entirely underwater” in her bathroom. “All four walls are covered with, schools of fish and marine animals, making it look like a cutaway of the ocean,” she said.
This was a perfect project of Mrs. Strange, who likes to combine the practical with the whimsical.
In addition to the newly-focused craft show at the Fourth of July celebration, other activities planned1 include: a special BBQ dinner, as well as other home cooked food during the day, performing artists, patriotic events, a bicycle parade for children 12 and under in mid-afternoon and a live band leading up to the spectacular fireworks at dark.
The site for the fireworks, around the pond at Avon Hall on Middle Street and is the perfect ending for a very traditional Fourth of July celebration.
