Rappahannock Newt Staff Writer ; Mayhugh’s is one of the newer Stores in the county, having opened its doors less than nine years ago.

However, the Mayhugh’s family of stores began in 1912, when the original one was opened in Greenwich in Fauquier County. It was started by Frank Mayhugh, the great-grandfather of Michael Mayhugh, the manager of the Mayhugh’s in Amissville.

When Frank Mayhugh died, his sons Gordon and David took over the business. This week Mayhugh’s is holding a grand opening for their fourth store, in Midland. They also have a store in New Baltimore.

The store is large and employs many from the community: Lois Settle, Melody Settle, Sandy Sealock, Mary Magee, Etta Estes and Robert Grigsby.
