Ruby Cannon
Mrs. Ruby Lee Stringfellow Cannon, 66, of Castleton died on May 16 at her residence.
She was born in Brandy Station on Aug. 3, 1928, to the late James and Lillian Jenkins Stringfellow.
Mrs. Cannon was a member of the Oourdvine Baptist Church, an active member of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, Charter member and Past-President of the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Virginia Angus Association Ladies Auxiliary, and an avid gardener.
Mrs. Cannon, along with her husband received the 1991 Rappahannock County “Citizen of the Year Award” and the Soil Conservation Award in Rappahannock County for 1981.
She was a retired postmistress and beautician.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ray T. Cannon; three children, Ann Cannon Powell of Lancaster, N.H., James M. Cannon of Castleton and Donna Cannon Wilkers of New Baltimore.
Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Bethany, David, Ashleigh, Meredith, Michael, Ross and Lee and one brother, Dallas F. Stringfellow of Warrenton.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 19 at the Gourdvine Baptist Church in Rixeyville with the Rev. John McKay officiating.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Henry Woodward, Earl Jewell, Andy Sabatini, Ralph Steffey, Allen Knighting and Danny Lane.
Honorary pallbearers were Richard Hitt, Nelson Nethers, Richard Settle, Douglas Baumgardner, William Keii l and Harry Lee Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department, 583 Castleton View Road, Castleton, Va. 22716 and/or the American Cancer Society, 246 E. Davis Street, Culpeper, Va. 22701.
