The show went on: the speeches, street fair and fireworks.
Starting with a small crowd in the morning, Washington, Virginia, was filled by the time 11 , candidates for public office gathered on the Courthouse grounds to speak to the assembled people, but many ignored the speakers intent on visiting, eating and shopping.
Still most speakers had some supporters in the audience, and all speakers were treated courteously by those specifically gathered to hear the speeches. Those gathered j to raise money for the Cub Scouts at the dunking booth and basketball throw simply ignored the ! politicians.
