The new scanner has a larger bore or opening that gives patients more space during the procedure. It shows detailed cross-sections of the body in any plane.
“The new magnetic resonance service offers several advantages over the previous one,” said Dr. Peter E. Nielson, the readiologist who reads the scans. “Resolution is much higher with this more modern and higher field-strength magnet. The resulting images are of substantially better quality for the time utilized.”
As a rule, patients with cardiac pacemakers are restricted from MR imaging, and pregnant women or patients with certain metallic surgical implants may not be eligible for MR examination.
