Culpeper Memorial Hospital and Fauquier Hospital are sharing the cost a new magnetic resonance imaging scanner.
The mobile unit cost $1.4 million. By sharing the cost CMH can pass along a savings of $300 to each scan patient, according to William A. Gravely Jr.f president of CMH.
For several years CMH had a contract with a supplier. The new MR1 is owned by Piedmont Movile Diagnostics, a limited liability partnership of Culpeper Memorial Hospital and Fauquier Hospital. Jointly purchasing the unit with Fauquier has enabled the hospital to save money and provide better service, Mr. Gravely said. The hospitals filed the certificate of need jointly.
