Several houses on Route 622 in Harris Hollow were flooded and are now a muddy mess. The side of a house in which James Jordan and Virginia Fletcher lived collapsed under the flood waters, according to neighbor Benny Roy. He also said that their car was flooded along with a satellite dish, gas and oil tanks and stacks of wood. They took refuge at the .Roy house at about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
William Smoot’s house was also flooded, and he was working with a bulldozer last Friday to build up some rock and dirt to keep the river off the road. His bridge was also washed out. He said that he lost 13 dogs in the flood, nine of which were puppies. He said that he found one dog’s body up in a tree, at least 15 feet off the ground.
The river, which had diverted itself at Mountain Green Farm, ran right through Pete Cave’s house on Route 624. He lost three vehicles, but was able to save one, according to a neighbor.
