He noted that a lot of old packing sheds vacant and said the county should look for commercial or clean industrial users for these buildings. He also said the county was unwise to discourage the proposal for a golf course near Woodville.
He said he agrees with a friend who said, “The supervisors represents the county government, not the people who elected them.”
“We’re creating a mini-bureaucracy,” Mr. Frazier added. He said that when the Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the budget, “John McCarthy was answering all the questions.” He said he also observed that Col. Bingham “is not taken seriously by the other members.”
Last Thursday the county Republican committee endorsed Mr. Frazier for the Board of Supervisors and Richard Wood, also from Jackson District, for the School Board. Mr. Frazier said they were the only candidates who sought the party endorsement. While no meetings are scheduled to consider endorsing other candidates, he said the party would be willing to meet and consider endorsing other candidates if it is asked.
His term as party chairman ends next March. “It’s been fun and enlightening, but I wouldn’t want to do both at the same time,” he said. If he is elected, the period between January and March would not be a busy time for the party, he said.
Mr. Frazier concluded, “I’ve worked with our state and regional representatives, the governor and attorney general and some of their reform proposals. I have prior knowledge of the responsibilities of a Board of Supervisors member. I believe I could hit the ground running, and the citizens wouldn’t have to be worried about that.”
