Fourth graders scored 49 percent in reading, 54 percent in m-ath and 65 percent in science. These scores were an improvement in each category over scores in 1994.
Kighth graders scored 55 percent in reading comprehension, 46 percent in math and 62 percent in science. These scores were higher and science and about the same in reading and math as last year.
Eleventh graders scored 60 percent in reading comprehension, 63 percent in math and 62 percent in science. These results were all higher than scores in 1994.
The state’s three Literacy Passpost Tests are first given to students in sixth grade. Students must retake any test they do not pass and may not enter ninth grade unless they have passed all three. This year 77.3 percent of sixth graders passed the writing test compared to 90.4 percent in 1994. In reading 79.5 percent passed this year
