Member Carson Johnson said he had never seen the ground in Sperryville as saturated as it was last week. He said he has seen the Thornton River much higher but without the saturated ground.
Ms. Chabot said she and Troy Jenkins tried to check on individual tanks during the heavy flow, but water was coming into some tanks faster than it could be pumped out. WSA members said it may be necessary to install vent pipes in the system to break up the siphoning effect that seems to come in heavy rains.
Operators will be conducting smoke tests starting July 18 and continuing for two weeks. Ms. Chabot asked sewer system customers to make sure nothing is placed on the manhole lids and basin covers in the system so employees can have access to them. Members of the WSA hope the smoke tests will show where there are leaks in the system.
Members agreed to try to develop a revised user agreement to be used for those reserving sewer rights without actually hooking up.
