On Sunday, Edinburg pitcher Mike Siers limited the Rappahannock Monarchs to two runs and six hits, as Edinburg topped Rappahannock 4-2.
The two teams now have identical 8-2 records, but the Monarchs remain in first place in the Apple Valley Baseball League. Complex league tie-breaking procedures meant that Edinburg would have had to win by five runs to take over first place.
Siers, the only pitcher to have beaten the Monarchs this year, squared off against Leroy North for the second time in a month. Once again, the two locked in a pitcher’s duel; and, as in their first meeting, Siers came out on top. Sires went seven and two-thirds innings, struck out nine, and walked one. He had complete command of all his pitches and alternately blew Monarchs away with his fastball and baffled them with his curve.
