The Water and Sewer authority has scheduled an extra meeting in July to adopt a budget for the fiscal year that started July 1.
Members need to get estimates of payroll costs before doing additional work on the budget and determining if they can grant raises to plant employees without raising sewer rates. They will meet again‘Thursday, July 20.
Plant operator Donna Chabot reported that the Sperryville sewer plant did discharge solids during recent heavy rains. She said when she contacted Richmond about the discharge, they informed her that many plants were having the same problems.
She said once the rains started within five to 10 minutes the discharge went from 17,000 gallons per day to over 100,000 gallons per day, and it stayed at that rate for two days. However, she reported the plant recovered quickly once the heavy rains were past and the discharge is currently clear.
