Maternal heritage
So as not to leave any loose ends or slight the mother’s side of this Burke family, I’ve thrown in some facts on the Rileys and related families.
Florence William Foster was bom in 1902. She was a daughter of William Franklin Riley and Minsey (a.k.a. Minnie) Adalaide Smoot who had married December 13, 1900.
William died before 1914 in which year Minnie, then a widow, married for her second husband, Josiah Riley. She died about 1940.
Minnie Riley, nee Smoot was a daughter of Spencer Edward Smoot and his wife, Lucy Margaret Riley. I’m told that Lucy lived to be over one hundred years old. Lucy’s parents were Thomas and Sarah Riley.
Spencer Smoot, was a son of John Edward Smoot and his wife Martha J. Riley who were married March 24, 1853 in Rappahannock County by Robert S. Bell, “Minister of the Presbyterian Church.”
William F. Foster was a son of Garret Booten Foster and Nancy Elizabeth Beahm. Garret’s mother was also a Beahm from Page County. Here is where I will end this article.
However, this fine old German family of Beahm has been much documented.
